Core Veterinary Admissions is an independent admissions firm launched by Sydney Bowen, an incoming first-year student at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2023, Sydney graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in African American and African Diaspora Studies. She is an active Phi Betta Kappa member and proud guardian of three Pomeranians and one DSH cat.

In the Fall of 2023, Sydney applied to three veterinary colleges: University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, and Tufts’ Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She was inspired to launch Core after gaining admission to all three programs. Core’s central aim is to help pre-veterinary students from all backgrounds put their best foot forward in the highly competitive veterinary admissions process.

Preparing for entry to a challenging four-year veterinary curriculum requires planning, organization, and rigorous educational and experiential preparation. As a previous applicant, Sydney is intimately familiar with each component of the VMCAS application and the experiential preparation required of competitive applicants. She is passionate about providing structured guidance to applicants who wish to paint a compelling portrait of their experiences and interests as they relate to the veterinary profession.

Sydney launched Core with the aim of broadening access to veterinary medicine as a career path. She is a first-generation college student who is committed to helping students at any point in their journey toward a career in veterinary medicine. She is an independent consultant and has no past or present affiliation with any veterinary college or veterinary college admissions office.
